7-Year Old Daughter took my job loss pretty hard at first but since then she has gotten quite use to having my unemployed ass around the house. Both Daughters seem delighted. I love them but, honestly, I could use a change of scenery.
I walked downstairs in my best suit and tie and 7-Year Old Daughter asked if I was going into the city for another interview. I told her I was and that, hopefully, I would be back to work very soon.
She burst into tears. “I don’t want you to go back to work! I want you to stay here! Can’t you work in my school?!” Later, she said that she hopes I find a job, but not for the rest of the year.
God forbid.

(sigh) this is the kind of thing they’ll remember better, with more understanding, when they’re older… i ask my kids (maybe too often) how they feel about things they remember from their childhood, and i’m often amazed at the things that i expected to be “defining”, and were mere blips on their little radar screens…
Hahaha. Sorry to say, this made me giggle just a little bit :)Probably because I think I can remember saying the same thing to my mother when she decided to go back to work!

Hang in there. I remember a few months of joblessness after the move and nearly lost my mind. As much as I moan about work, I don’t know what I’d do if I didn’t have a job!

They’ll get over it. My daughter was thrilled when I began staying at home, but as the new school year began she came home when day and said,”If you’d just get a job Mom, I could go to the Boys and Girls Club after school and be with my friends.”This was followed up with several days later with,”When are you going back to work already?”Little girls are fickle.
